Jayson Werth: Totally Worth It

Adam: Werth has 9 RBI's ... 9 ...

Gabe: Today? Wow. Who are they playing?

Adam: No ... this season.

Gabe: Oh. That's somewhat less impressive. So I guess he figured that a Zito contract requires Zito level production.

Adam: Yep ...

Gabe: Some of the players who have more RBI than Werth: Alex Avila, Placido Polanco, Drew Stubbs, Jed Lowrie, Raul Ibanez, Darwin Barney, Milton Bradley, Cliff Pennington, Sam Fuld, Eric Hinske, Miguel Tejada, and Josh Thole.

Adam: Hinske ... that's awesome.

Gabe: Right. A bench guy, plus Bradley just got cut because of a lack of production.

Adam: Do all those guys together make more than Werth?

Gabe: They probably make more combined this year, but total contract? No way.

(PS for the stat heads: yeah, we know RBI is not a terribly good tool to evaluate a hitter's effectiveness, as it depends on so many other factors. But still ... 9.)
